Happiness vs. Joy

By Pastor Pat Giraldin |  March 23, 2018

I think that a lot of the time the words “happiness” and “joy” are used interchangeably. Although both can describe feelings, one is really an emotion, the other is not. Happiness is an emotion, joy is more. Let me explain.
Joy can produce feelings of happiness, but happiness does not produce joy. Happiness is a by-product of something, and is temporary. Joy is the something we can have, and is found in only one thing: the person of Jesus.
““I have told you these things so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.”
John 15:11 CSB
Joy was made complete at the cross, and our joy is complete when we accept the finished work of Jesus on Calvary. This joy is what will be with us in our ups and our downs; happy times and hard times. Unshakable joy comes from knowing unshakable truth. You can do all kinds of things that can and will make me feel happy, but you can do nothing to take away my joy in the Lord...nothing. That joy keeps me and completes me, now how about you?
Now Get it?!
